The safari starts and ends in Kigali. The safari leads you to explore the different genocide sites in Kigali Rwanda. Among the genocides to be visited include; Nyamata, anatarama, Gisozi, and Nyanza King’s palace. Ntarama genocide memorial center, it’s one of the six genocide museums in Rwanda. There were 5000 people that were killed in the Catholic Church. It’s located in Kigali district and its hour’s drive south of Kigali, the national capital as well as the largest city in the country.  This church is a memorial site since 5000 people were killed there on the 15th April 1994 during the Rwandan Genocide.

The Nyamata Genocide memorial is based around the former church 30km south of Kigali in Rwanda, which honors the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. The remains of 50,000 people are all buried here. The center is one of the six in Rwanda that honors the Rwanda Genocide. Gisozi genocide memorial is known as Kigali genocide memorial museum situated in Kigali city of Rwanda. The memorial site is vital to all the people of Rwanda in the loving memory of over 250,000 people that were killed by the massive killings of the Rwandan genocide.

DAY 1:

Visit Ntamara, Nyamata churches & a visit to the presidential museum.

Have breakfast at the hotel in Kigali and after proceed with you visit to both Ntarama and Nyamata genocide churches. Ntarama former Catholic Church is now a memorial of 5000 people who were killed there on the 15th April 1994 during the Rwandan genocide. The site is one of the 6 major centers in Rwanda that honors the Rwandan genocide. You are to see many head skulls of people who were killed during the genocide.

The Nyamata church is based around the former church 30km south of Kigali in Rwanda, which also honors the Rwandan genocide in 1994. This memorial centre is one of the six main centers that commemorate the Rwanda genocide. You are to see the human skulls at this church.

After this visit, have lunch at any local restaurant and after have a visit to the presidential museum. This museum is one of the frequently visited memorial places in Kigali, it’s a tourist attraction within the city, and the palace museum was the home to the Juvenal Habyarimana, Rwanda’s last president before the 1994 genocide. This house is full of sensors that informed the president of movements in restricted corridors.

The presidential palace Museum takes between 1 to 2 hours to explore. This depends on the stopovers you make, it could also be less. The guides are always available to answer any questions.

After the visit, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

DAY 2:

A visit to Gisozi genocide museum & afternoon visit to the local markets.

Have breakfast at the lodge and after proceed for your visit to Gisozi genocide museum which is the country’s most vital, largest and most visited Genocide Memorial centre. It’s geared towards foreign visitors who visit it on regular basis. You are able to see mass graves, in three sections down the hillside, and then contain the remains of many victims of the genocide. You are also able to see the victim’s family photos hung on the walls. The guide explains as you move around the museum.

After the visit, have lunch at any local restaurant as you prepare to visit the local markets in Kigali city. Some of the local markets include; Kimironko Market famous for selling food stuffs , fruits and vegetables, Caplaki market known for local hand crafts, musical instruments, as well as lovely paintings and jewelry. The Azizi Life Boutique which sells amazing hand made products as well as Nyabugogo market that sell vegetables and food stuffs. Marembo market famous for selling souvenirs like the bags, clothes as well as jewelry.

After the local market visit, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3:

Drive to Nyanza and visit the King’s palace

Have breakfast at the hotel in Kigali and after start your drive to the King’s palace in Nyanza ( Butare). The palace is located in Rwanda’s Butare district and was the traditional seat of Rwanda’s Kingdom. The place has been reconstructed in Rukari and the visitors can adventure the replica king’s palace which is built using traditional materials and methods. You get to learn about the evolution of farming as well as building through centuries. Get to find out about the breeding techniques and listen to the amahamba songs.

The palace and museum is 21/2 hours’ drive from Kigali and the timing depends on your departure from Kigali. Your guide is always with you for the duration of your trip in Rwanda. He will accompany you to the palace and you explore the main palace at your own pace. You can take 4 hours as you explore this museum. The tri includes lunch at the museum restaurant just a short drive from the palace.

After the visit, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Overnight at Four steps hotel/ Barthos Hotel/ Hotel Ibis

DAY 4:

Drive to nyamagabe & visit Murambi genocide site and an afternoon visit to National museum of Rwanda.

Have breakfast and after drive to Nyamagabe district in southern province of Rwanda. It lies between Butare and Cyangugu south west of Rwanda. It contains the eastern half of Nyungwe forest, which is a popular destination and home to chimpanzees and many other primate species. Along the way, you visit Murambi genocide site which is one of the 6 main centers in Rwanda that honors the Rwandan genocide. It was the site of massacre during the 1994 Rwanda genocide. There were over 65000 Tutsis that were killed in this place. The memorial was founded on 21st April 1995 and contains 50000 graves. The school building is now a genocide museum show casing skeletons and mummified bodies of some of the many people killed in Gikongoro province in 1994.

After this visit, have lunch at any local restaurant as you prepare to visit the National museum of Rwanda. It’s situated in Butare and was built with help of the Belgian government. It was opened in 1989 and it’s a good source of information on the cultural history of the country and the region. This is the site of the murder of Queen Dowager Rosalie Gicanda and many more during the genocide. A guide takes you around as he explains to you the events that took place during the 1994 genocide.

After this visit, proceed back to lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 5:

Departure back to Kigali

Have breakfast at the lodge as you prepare to transfer to Kigali city. Upon your arrival at the city, proceed for a short visit to the Kigali genocide memorial site. After have lunch and then drive to the airport to catch your departure flight.
